President’s Welcome

by Bill Zager – President of Friends of Wisconsin State Parks

Welcome Friends of Wisconsn State Parks and friends of Friends

I would like to congratulate Friends of Wisconsin State Parks and all of the members of the local Friends Groups for the very successful year we have had in 2016. The local Friends around the state have raised money for many projects, sponsored many enjoyable events and hosted educational programs at their favorite state park property again this year.
FWSP has been very busy during 2016 looking to the future. Our committees have taken the challenge of rewriting our Strategic plan. We have enlisted the help of Peter Biermeier to help us package the Board's vision into a new 5 year Strategic Plan. Now with the help of a Capacity building grant, we have hired Kelly Fischer to help with our financial capacity building effort for marketing FWSP as an organization to be much more of a fund raising group in the future. This is a great undertaking for FWSP.
In the future FWSP will also bring information to the local Friends groups and look for their input so that we have a united voice for advocacy. This effort will be for all of the Friends to keep the stake holders and governmental officials informed as to conditions and
needs of all state park system properties.
The 20th FWSP Awards Banquet Held November 5, 2016,  recognizes many outstanding folks who have shown dedication to the state parks system and they represent the many additional“ dedicated heroes “ that work tirelessly throughout the year to help preserve, promote, protect and enhance the Wisconsin State Park system.
On behalf of myselfand the FWSP Board of Directors, I would like to thank all of the individual friends who put the "Friends" in action around the state.
Sincerely,
BHlZager
