From the FWSP President - 2016

The new year of 2016 is off to a fast start for Friends of Wisconsin State Parks.
This year is the 20 year anniversary of FWSP and the board decided to take the opportunity to do some Strategic Planning as we look forward to the next 5 years and beyond. We hope to have a finished plan by this spring. With the good news that FWSP received a Capacity Building Grant from the National Enviromental Education Foundation, we are looking forward to upcoming opportunities that this will provide. Using the suggestions from our past Friends summits, FWSP is planning an in-depth training session to be held in the Wisconsin Dells area in early November 2016. We welcome input from all of our local Friends Groups as we are forming a committee to plan the agenda and presenters for this workshop and training session.
FWSP would also like to welcome Ben Bergey as the new Wisconsin State Parks Bureau Director. Ben has been with the parks bureau for 20 years and brings a wealth of experience to the state parks system and a passion for the parks and natural resources of the state. FWSP looks forward to working closely with Ben.
With this being a milestone year for FWSP, please let us know if you would like an FWSP board member to attend one of your local Friends group meetings or other events that are happening throughout the year. We are planning a major celebration at the FWSP Annual Awards banquet this fall.
As we move forward with all of the local Friends events throughout this year, please remember to invite and include our local legislators in these events. We want to keep the needs of our State Park System in the forefront of their minds as they are going through State Budget process for 2017 biennium. As a show of support, please support events that other local Friends Groups are having. This is a great way to get new ideas and have fun at State Parks events and you don’t have to do all of the work!
Happy Trails,
Bill Zager
