banner.gif 1000×150 Over 30  ‘Friends’ found their way to a primitive island off the tip of the Door County Peninsula and northeast of Washington Island in Lake Michigan. The mission was to clean up the park, the boathouse and the lighthouse, and  cut firewood for campers. The dedicated volunteers made the trip by boat.
Rock Island State Park is home to the oldest lighthouse in Wisconsin. Vehicles are not allowed on the 912-acre island, making for an experience unlike any other Wisconsin state park. Stone buildings, built by a wealthy inventor and his family, house exhibits. The ferry to the island runs Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day.
The ‘Friends’ Board is composed of 4 officers, 7 at-large members, and is advised by the Park Ranger.
