Friends of Wisconsin State Parks elect Officers

The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks elected officers at its January board meeting in Madison.
unnamedWilliam Zager (Photo left)of Amery was elected president. of The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks.  He replaces Roger Putnam of Madison.
Zager was born and raised on a Dairy farm in Central Minnesota.  “From an early age I learned to appreciate environment and how important it is to use good farming practices and take care of the land.”
  After  moving to Wisconsin in 1972,  he worked for Motorola  as  a Field Technician,  covering much of Western Wisconsin.  Later, he worked for Northern States Power as a Station Electrician in Western Wisconsin. Recently retired, from Xcel Energy as a Power System Operator his  newest endeavor is an owner/operator of Z-Orchard in Amery, WI.
Zager was honored by being named Outstanding Individual Friends member by FWSP and receiving the Hero Award in 2011.
He is  a member of the Friends of Stower Seven Lakes State Trail since its inception and have been President since 2010,  and has been on the FWSP Board of Directors of the Friends of Wisconsin State parks for several years. He has served as the Vice President before being elected President in 2015.
Waldo Peterson of Madison was elected vice president. He is a member of the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park.
Mike Samsa (photo: right) of Franksville was elected secretary. He is a member of the Richard Bong State Recreation Area's Bong Naturalist Association.
Samsa was born and has lived lifelong in the greater Milwaukee area. He has been happily married to Carol since 1984. Together they have enjoyed the great outdoors; camping, hiking and sightseeing, not only in Wisconsin, but throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Bahamas and Central America. He and Carol have also busied themselves by volunteering at Richard Bong State Recreation Area (8 years) and the Metropolitan Builders’ Association of Greater Milwaukee (20+ years).
Mike and Carol reside in the Town of Raymond, Racine County, where they have owned their home for more than 25 years. They also own vacation timeshares in Minocqua, WI and Orlando, FL., and a 5th. wheel travel trailer. Presently they have just four pets, two dogs and two cats, all rescues.
Spectator-sports (auto racing, baseball, and football), woodworking, yard work, camping and hiking are Mike’s favorite hobbies. He also likes to tinker with anything mechanical, watch classic TV shows and listen to hard rock music.
He replaces Tim Lovett of Oconomowoc.
Jan Primus (photo: left) of Madison was re-elected treasurer. 
Primus has been camping at Mirror Lake State Park since the early 1980s and has been part of the Friends group for the past 5 years. Jan is a tax consultant at Suby VanHaden & Associates in Madison and has worked there for the past 15 years.  Before that, she was the Director of Operations for the Graduate School of Banking at UW-Madison for 18 years. Jan is very active at Bethel Area Lutheran Church in Madison and is currently the Secretary for the Bethel Community Foundation. She is a member of the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park.
The non-profit Friends of Wisconsin State Parks is an umbrella organization for the more than 80 local friends groups across Wisconsin. These groups and individuals work together to preserve, protect, and enhance the state parks, trails, recreation areas and forests around Wisconsin by providing on-the-ground work, monetary support, and advocacy for these valuable areas.
