2013 HERO Awards Announced by Friends of Wisconsin State Parks

images_thumb Each year, The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks recognizes individuals and Friends groups who have been instrumental in contributing time and energy at a state park, forest, or trail. The HERO awards also recognizes a DNR Land manager , forest manager, or trail manager who has done a great job with the DNR property that they manage.
The 2013 HERO award winners are:

  • Outstanding Individual Friends Member – 2 awards this year:  Bill Scholten – Friends of Potawatomi State Park  Al Swain – Friends of Blue Mound State Park
  • Outstanding Friends Group – Friends of Blue Mound State Park
  • Outstanding DNR Land Manager – Paul Sandgren – Kettle Moraine State Forest – southern unit
Nominations were open to all  Wisconsin State Parks, Trails, and Forest groups. Just under 100 nominations were received from the  online contest at The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks Web site:  fwsp.org .
HERO awards will be presented to a representative for each of the winning categories during  the 17th Annual Awards Banquet on October 11, 2013, at the Horicon Marsh Education & Visitor Center on Highway 28, in Horicon, Wisconsin.  The Awards Banquet is held from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM. Members of the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks have received invitations in the mail and are asked to RSVP to patricia.loosen@wisconsin.gov by October 1, 2013.

The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks was created to preserve, protect, promote and enhance Wisconsin’s state parks, forests, trails and recreation areas. Friends of Wisconsin State Parks is a non-profit umbrella organization supporting over 80 friends groups around the state. FWSP provides technical support, sponsors events such as Work*Play*Earth Day and the annual Volunteer Jamboree.
