Winter Camping

Enjoy the season
If you have the right equipment and warm clothes, Winter is a great time for camping in Wisconsin state parks. There are no crowds and no bugs, and there's plenty to do; cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, animal tracking, bird watching, and ice fishing.

The Wisconsin Department of Resources has a table which  lists campsites that are open during the winter. (Link)

Get Outdoors! Wisconsin
The Wisconsin State Park System has a new initiative aimed at getting children and families to spend more time outdoors with nature. It's fun, and it's good for you! "Get Outdoors! Wisconsin" addresses a growing problem, what author Richard Louv terms “nature deficit disorder:”
  • Kids today spend an average of 6.5 hours per day with television, computers and video games.
  • In fact, a child is six times more likely to play a video game than to ride a bike.
  • Childhood obesity rates for children ages 6-11 have risen four-fold since 1971.
